OverPad for macOS

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how OverPad – Floating Scratchpad ("OverPad," "the app," "we," or "our") handles information when you use the macOS application. It applies to the current App Store version of OverPad.

1. Information OverPad processes

OverPad processes only the content and settings required to provide its features on your Mac:

2. Where information is stored

Notes, note metadata, and app preferences are stored locally on your Mac using Apple platform storage provided to the app. OverPad does not operate a server or account system and does not upload this content to us.

Your data remains under your control on your device. You can delete individual notes inside OverPad. You can also remove locally stored app data using the controls and file-management options provided by macOS.

3. Data collection and sharing

4. Network access and third parties

OverPad’s core note-taking features do not require a network connection. The app does not send note content to third-party services and does not include third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, or AI services.

OverPad includes open-source software libraries for Markdown rendering and syntax highlighting. These components run locally as part of the app and are not used to collect or transmit your content. Their license notices are available inside OverPad under Settings → Acknowledgements / Open Source Licenses.

5. AI processing

OverPad does not contain built-in generative AI, chat, summarization, translation, or model-training features. Text is not automatically sent to ChatGPT, OpenAI, or any other AI provider. If you manually copy text from OverPad into another application or service, that service’s privacy policy applies to the information you provide there.

6. Data retention and deletion

Because OverPad does not receive your data, we do not retain a server-side copy and cannot access, recover, or delete your notes for you. Local content remains on your Mac until you delete the relevant note or remove the app’s stored data. Removing the app may not, by itself, remove every preference file maintained by macOS.

7. Security

Keeping data local reduces exposure to online services, but no local storage method can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for protecting access to your Mac, maintaining appropriate backups, and using macOS security features that meet your needs. OverPad should not be treated as an encrypted vault.

8. Children’s privacy

OverPad does not knowingly collect personal information from children or from any other user. The app does not require an account and does not transmit note content to the developer.

9. Changes to this policy

If OverPad’s data practices or features change, this policy will be updated before or when the change takes effect. The effective date at the top of this page identifies the current version.

10. Contact

For privacy questions about OverPad, please use the developer contact information available from the OverPad listing on the Mac App Store. Please do not include private note content in a support request.
