Build prompts from reusable pieces
Keep requirements, constraints, examples, and expected output in separate notes. The first line becomes the note title, so a small set of prompt drafts remains easy to identify and switch between.
When a prompt is ready, use the copy-all button to place the complete Markdown source on the clipboard without selecting the whole note first.
Keep code and logs readable
Wrap source code, console output, stack traces, or configuration fragments in fenced code blocks. OverPad preserves the Markdown source and provides syntax highlighting for commonly used languages.
- Add a short explanation above each code block so the receiving tool knows what it represents.
- Trim secrets, access tokens, personal data, and irrelevant log noise before copying.
- Keep the original error message intact when exact wording matters.
Collect context without leaving the source
Open OverPad beside a browser, terminal, IDE, issue tracker, or document. Because the editor is a floating Mac panel, you can move between reference material and your draft without dedicating another full workspace to a notes app.
Privacy boundary: notes are saved locally by OverPad. Once you paste text into an external AI service, that service’s own privacy and data-handling terms apply.
A simple four-step workflow
- Create a note and put the task name on the first line.
- Add the goal, source material, constraints, and desired output as Markdown sections.
- Review the note and remove anything private or unnecessary.
- Copy the complete Markdown and paste it into the AI tool you chose.
