Floating notes for macOS

Keep a scratchpad within reach across Spaces.

OverPad combines a small draggable orb with a floating Markdown editor that can join desktop Spaces and assist native macOS full-screen workflows.

Place the orb where it interferes least

Drag the orb to a convenient edge of the current display. OverPad saves its position and keeps it inside the visible screen area, including when display arrangements change.

If you do not want the orb visible, hide it from the context menu. The menu bar entry remains available and can reopen the editor.

Open notes beside the current task

Click the orb to expand the editor near it. The panel receives keyboard focus for immediate typing, while the window can be moved or resized for the current workspace.

  • Keep a checklist beside a browser or document.
  • Record commands and observations beside Terminal or an IDE.
  • Hold temporary copy, links, or meeting notes without opening a full note library.

Move through Spaces and native full screen

The orb and editor use macOS floating panels configured to join all desktop Spaces and support native full-screen auxiliary placement. This makes OverPad useful when another app occupies its own Space.

macOS distinction: this workflow targets Apple’s native full-screen Spaces. An app’s custom presentation mode may manage windows differently.

Close the editor without breaking flow

OverPad saves note content automatically. Closing the editor hides it rather than quitting the app, and the orb or menu bar entry remains your route back to the same notes.

Multiple notes let you separate temporary material by task, while local saving restores your notes and key preferences after relaunch.
